The eyebrow should begin directly above the inner corner of your eye. To find the highest point of the arch, hold a pencil parallel to the outside edge of the iris. The first three quarters of the brow should head upwards toward your natural peak; the final quarter should head downwards and tape off at the end. From the arch to the outer corner of the eye, your brow should fall in a straight or slightly curved line, depending on the look you're trying to achieve.
Brow length: Hold a pencil from your nostril to the outside edge of your eye. The point that the pencil touches your brow is your perfect brow length.
To create the perfect arch at home, you should first mark the area accurately. Remember, if your eyebrows are very light, then fill in what you want to keep with a dark color. If your brows are unruly, use brow jell to keep them in place.
Use a moisturizer or makeup remover to clean off any remaining white color from the pencil left on the brows.
Use an astringent to disinfect and clean the plucked area.
Filling in the brows: Brush brows downward with a spooly. Use a pencil to draw a line along the upper edge of the brow to define the arch. Comb the brows upward and outward.
Fill in sparse areas with a freshly sharpened brow pencil. Use light, quick feathering strokes to draw in the hair. Brow powder will give the brows overall definition and a more natural looks.
Try using a hair conditioner on brows when shaping them with a razor. It will soften the brows for easier shaving, condition them and lay them flat for better control.
Avoid getting creative with your waxing the day before an important event.
The best time to tweeze brows is after a shower or bath, when your hair is at its most pliable; this will make for easier and less painful plucking.
Avoid over tweezing your eyebrows.
Eyebrow Shading
- To slightly lighten the eyebrows and soften your look, try a cream bleach. Leave on for 5-15 minutes, depending on original shade and skin sensitivity.
- For the most natural results when filling in and shaping eyebrows use a brow pencil, brow powder, cream brow color, or brow mascara. Select a color the same shade or a shade lighter than your own eyebrows.
- Fill in the eyebrows with a shade one or two tones lighter than your own when you have dark hair. (When your brows are very light, try a shade 1 or 2 tones darker).
- Try to stay in shades of warm browns or taupes. They look more natural and soften the look.
- Avoid using black to fill in the eyebrows. It can have a tendency to appear a bit harsh and might turn grayish.
- If you’ve over colored your eyebrows or made them too dark, use a hard toothbrush dipped in a neutral powder or shadow and lightly brush over the eyebrow.
Eyebrow shapes are a very personal choice. My advice would be to stay away from trendy fads and stay with the most flattering look to your face. Try to avoid over plucking, since the hairs don’t always grow back. Try to follow your own eyebrows’ natural shape. But if you’re not sure, go to a professional the first time you have your brows plucked, and let the expert shape your brows. Then you will be able to maintain the shape yourself.
