Inspirational interview from the Emmy Award winning author and authority on beauty, Eve Pearl. This video is courtesy of Genevieve Santos.
Highlights from May 2013 beautypress SpotlightDay in New York City Hot Beauty Products all in one place
I don't think it's ever taken me this long to post a Beauty Press Spotlight Day recap, but I cannot begin to explain how insane my schedule really is lately. As usual, Beauty Press delivered a ton of great brands directly to us, which is great. Editors/Bloggers get a ton of event invites, and it's just not possible to attend them all, so going to an event where multiple brands come to you is just a no-brainer to begin with. It saves me a ton of time to meet 10 brands at once, and so far I've discovered a ton of new favorites this way as well.
Eve Pearl - is a 5-time Emmy Award winning celebrity Makeup Professional with over 18 years of experience in television, film, theatre and print. She also has the patience of a Saint. As I mentioned the event was held on a rainy and super humid day. Most everyone was mentioning how they were feeling sort of blah and while no one seemed to want to take pictures of themselves getting worked on, they were taking pictures of others instead which did NOT make me happy, it's a huge blogger pet peeve of mine in fact. In my opinion while at an event you shouldn't just take pictures of other bloggers and use them on your site. Granted sometimes you can't help it, you are trying to get a shot of a speaker and get people's heads, but that's not what I'm talking about, I'm talking about purposely snapping a direct on photo of someone who isn't purposely posing for it for you. We have no choice about the venue and event sponsor using our image, but the least we can do is respect one another!
You would think I was the celebrity because when I sat with Eve the amount of flashbulbs going off in my face was totally taking the fun out of the experience for me. And she picked up on that and asked people to stop taking pictures which I can't tell you how much I appreciate that she cared about me feeling comfortable. You can't quite feel 'beautiful' when you are feeling gawked at and super un-comfortable. And while I'm aware I'm probably the weirdest blogger on the planet in that I don't actually enjoy taking tons of pictures of myself or having my picture taken at all really, it really was taking away from the experience having everyone yelling which way to stare while trying to take in the invaluable tips and tricks she was giving me! The makeover she gave me was truly phenomenal, I actually hadn't experienced one that 'transformative' since my last one by Jane Iredale. Eve Pearl gave me a very subtle look that I really liked, it was transformative but in a way that didn't look put on, it was very natural and she was so nice that she really turned my day around! One of the products she used on me that day was the Dual Salmon Concealer Treatment (I am a 'Light/Medium'). I definitely LOVE this concealer. I rarely find one that is as effective as I'd like it to be with acne scarring and this one was fantastic! In fact here is my after picture with Eve:
Eve was just all around awesome and I would definitely love to have her back on Ascending Butterfly!

Baby, it’s cold outside – but that shouldn't stop you from looking smokin’ hot on your wedding day. While outdoor ceremonies are pretty much out of the question, brides aren't immune to winter woes when it comes to their hair and makeup. Follow these five guidelines (they're easier than figuring out the reception seating plan, promise) and you'll be on your way to beauty bliss on your big day– come rain, come snow, come hail or sleet.
Flakes, redness, dullness...dry winter air does no favors to a winter bride's complexion. The key to getting ahead of harsh winter temperatures is prevention. "Rather than waiting the day of the wedding to combat dry patches with lotion, start exfoliating and moisturizing at least a month beforehand," says Naeemah LaFond, owner and creative director of Under Her Veil, an on-site bridal beauty company based in New York. Her other day-of tip: Use a hydrating primer such as Smashbox Photo Finish. "This will leave the skin looking smooth and allow for easy makeup application,” she says.
Build The Right Foundation
Your summer foundation is yesterday’s news. Women – and especially brides – should switch up their base during the colder months, according to wedding makeup artist Jackie Schneider. “Unless the bride has unusually oily skin, matte foundations can actually accentuate fine lines and make winter skin look dull," she explains. "A silicone-based foundation, while too shiny in the summer, may be a perfect solution in the colder months.” Her favorite: Eve Pearl High Definition Liquid Foundation.

I will start this post by stating that I love Eve Pearl! Her makeup line is amazing and
she is without a doubt one of the nicest people I have ever met!
Lets talk about the woman:
I was fortunate enough to meet Eve Pearl online. I began tweeting her and asking advice and then I met her at the 2012 IMATS in Los Angeles. She signed my book (Plastic Surgery Without the Surgery which at this point I was using as my makeup handbook/Bible), took pictures with me, did my friend Alex’s makeup, I giggled and laughed with her amazing staff and then she went on to give an INCREDIBLE seminar. This woman is amazing and I adore her. Later I entered her Youtube contest and won third place! I just love her!
Lets talk about the makeup:
If it wasn’t enough that she is an amazing person, she made an INCREDIBLE makeup line available at the Eve Pearl website. Her makeup line is a full line that she markets as makeup with skincare. I use her products in my personal kit and in my professional kit. The following is a list of what I own and I love every single item!

Disclaimer: I am not paid or sponsored by Eve Pearl to write the following review. This review is based on my opinion and personal experiences. I received the following products mentioned in this review as samples for blog review purposes at the Beautypress Spotlight Day in May 2013.
It is no secret about how I heard of Eve Pearl and Eve Pearl Cosmetics. Everyone and their mother heard of Eve Pearl and Eve Pearl Cosmetics. So, you can imagine how excited I was to meet the Eve Pearl Team at the Beautypress Spotlight Day in May. I spoke to a representative named Sabrina, and briefly talked about the Eve Pearl Line, and brand new cosmetics. It was the absolute highlight of my day at the event.
Many of my favorite makeup artists and YouTube beauty gurus highly recommend Eve Pearl Cosmetics, including using their products in their makeup tutorials. After watching their reviews and tutorial looks using Eve Pearl, I always told myself that one day, my goal is to write a review for a highly well known brand like Eve Pearl. As well as create a tutorial look using Eve Pearl for my YouTube channel. Well, it looks like I have achieved my goal for my blog. I know I sound like a fan girl, but Eve Pearl is one of my highly favorite cosmetic brands.
To add on my excitement, I received two Eve Pearl Products to review
for you: Dual Salmon Concealer Treatment in Tan/Dark, and Kisses Of
Pearl Age Defying Lip Gloss in Hey Sexy-409. I tried these two products,
and absolutely love them. Now, I see why they are so popular worldwide.
Plus, an award-winning brand. They both looked and felt natural. I am
very pleased with these products. Definitely added to my makeup

Blushing and applying bronzer correctly is an art form, most of us either use too much or apply it incorrectly. One rule of thumb is to never apply blush of the bottom third of your face and never on your temples.
Our favorites are:
Blush Trio by Eve Pearl – is available in 6 color pallets for all skin tones. The results are natural looking cheeks with a flush of color for all day perfection. The silky powder glides on for a seamless application and the Vitamin E infuses your skin with all day moisture. $36 @EvePearl.com

Christina Huffington: Mom’s bathroom has always been like a communal gathering space.
Arianna Huffington: The most important features I had to have when I designed my bathroom were a great bathtub–that’s key–and two sinks, so that if one of the girls is taking their makeup off, they can do that here. That’s part of the daily ritual for us, taking off our makeup and talking. I also have a bench in my shower because it’s a steam shower. This way, you can sit down and have a steam; it’s just so detoxifying.
Christina: We’re a really tight-knit family. I think it’s the Greek female thing, where everyone sticks together and hangs out. A lot of my friends aren’t close to their parents, which I never really got. But we definitely went through a rough patch when I was a preteen.
Arianna: And a teen...
Christina: [Laughs] ...and a teen.
Arianna: She went away to boarding school for a year! In Greece, the idea of your kid not going to school near you is completely crazy, so it was great when she came back. I was very close with my family–my mother lived with me while I was married and helped me raise my kids; she was like a second mom.
Christina: She was very different from my mom–she always wore a muumuu and no makeup. And she would be barefoot and feeding everyone all the time.
Arianna: I am different from my mother, but over the
weekend, I love wearing no makeup and sweatpants. I get to have a
complete break from the week, which for me is intense... I run the Huffington Post, which has grown a lot since 2005–we’re going to be eight years old on May 9th.

Our topic this week is Eve's favorite makeup trends for the warmer season upon us and her favorite makeup tricks....
Q. What are your three favorite makeup trends for the warmer seasons?
A. 1. Liquid Eyeliner.....gel, liquid and pencil
2. Rosy Colored Cheeks
Q. What is your trick to highlighting the eyes?
A. Salmon Concealer used both under the eyes and on the lid will highlight your eyes. Remember to use a bit under the brow bone as well as on the outer corners of the eye to make them look lifted.
Q. What about lips, how would you highlight them?
A. Use the HD Dual foundation (both shades) with a concealer brush to line around your lips (this will highlight and create a barrier for your lip color to stay put). I also like using a strong color as the base and then lightening it up with a gloss.
Q. What is the easiest way to take a look from day to night?
A. Reapply your eyeliner-liquid or gel on the top of your eye line....you can also make it a bit thicker on the outer end of the eye....and then add some jewel toned shadows on the outside corner or even above the entire liner. Adding a bright lip color will give added glam for night time. And if you are really daring, try some false lashes.
"Ask Eve" is an interactive blog segment where Eve will answer your beauty questions/concerns. Send in your questions via e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org) or video link, label the subject "Ask Eve" and tell us where you're from. You will be contacted should your question be selected. If you have a twitter handle, kindly send that in as well.
Here are some questions Eve answered and some great tips to follow. Looking forward to hearing from all of YOU EVE PEARL(R) fans!
1. Q. What's your recommendation for a skin regime?
A. Wash your face, using a mild face soap/wash with a washcloth ...and moisturize/prime as usual. No need for rest time without makeup...remember, when your makeup is the skincare, you can wash it and reapply it.
2. Q. How can I prepare skin to achieve the best in foundation application?
A. Use a Non-Silicone, Oil-Free Priming Moisturizer all over the face...use fingers or a sponge.
3. Q. What's the best makeup remover out there?
A. For foundation: I have a home remedy: Extra Virgin Olive oil is a great all around makeup remover.
For Mascara: Lancome ' has that blue/clear remover. We are developing one as well....
4. Q. What's your preference for foundation, liquid, mineral, powder, other? and why?
A. I like the EVE PEARL(R) HD Cream Foundations. They give you a full range of coverage without the mess. You can apply the HD Cream foundation with a brush...Using a damp sponge will allow it to go on more sheer (like a liquid) or use the sponge not damp or with just the brush and you will get full coverage, like a concealer. One product that will give you versatile applications. All the EP creams are oil free and water free...but they are water friendly... meaning, they work well with water, or if you perspire, get caught in the rain, cry etc.... makeup will be fine.
5. Q. What are your top three go to products from your line?
A. 1. Priming Moisturizer w/Astaxanthin
2. Salmon Concealer & Treatment
3. HD Dual Foundation
6. Q. What is the best foundation coverage for acne prone skin/sensitive skin types?
A. EP HD Dual Foundation was developed for acne prone, sensitive skin. That is why it is oil free, paraben free, fragrance free. Gives you all the coverage, and feels like your wearing nothing but your favorite skincare.

This blog entry pertains to the Makeup Professionals as well as women who seek a unique, upscale line of makeup with skincare. "Makeup with skincare for every complexion" is the signature statement for the EVE PEARL(R) brand. The name behind the makeup and brand that has come so far because the products are no fuss and in a class of its own. I have to admit its quite difficult to choose favorites because the line is so well done. From brushes to makeup travel bags to the quality of cosmetics, all of it is prime. I am proud to be an associate of the company and a friend to Eve.
Priming Moisturizer Treatment with Astaxanthin- this primer/moisturizer evens out the skin, mattifies and creates a weightless layer that feels like absolutely nothing is on the skin. It does not have that silicone-yish like feeling/texture like some competitive primers on the market. It dissipates into the skin perfectly, creating a fearless canvas, ready for any maquillage. This primer will run you $42.00 and all you need is a dab all over the face. TIP: Use fingers or a sponge to apply. It is packed with Astaxanthin/Astareal(R)- antioxidant 500X stronger than Vitamin E and Omega-3's which as most know is a must for skin clarity. It also happens to provide a layer to protect from sun damage and helps with skin's elasticity. I refer to it as the "skin perfector" , it can be used over and under makeup, great to carry in your kit or purse. Run some of this treatment under your eye area for a mid-day pick me up with a sponge to collect any fall out. You will feel the eye area slightly tighten due to the ingredients working their magic but if you follow with the Salmon Concealer (R) and Treatment you will really look like you've slept 10 hours even though you really didn't. You ladies know what I mean!! Especially the hard working mothers out there. We will return to the company's signature product-the salmon concealer-later in this post. This moisturizer has done wonders for my skin, especially in terms of Acne. It has evened out my skin tone and I rarely see a pimple. This is a makeup-ista must have!!

Last week, we published a case study about Eve Pearl, an Emmy-winning TV makeup artist who founded a cosmetics company by the same name. In June 2011, with online sales and traffic at her three-year-old Manhattan boutique slower than desired, Ms. Pearl, 46, listened hard when ShopNBC, the nation’s third-largest 24-hour home shopping network, invited her to appear live with some of her high-end products.
She weighed the pluses: her experience in front of the cameras on several “Today” show product demos and a potential audience of tens of millions. And she considered the negatives, among them: a possible worsening of cash flow because of the shopping network’s payment terms and the fear of tarnishing her top-drawer brand in the hurly burly of home shopping TV.
Last October, Ms. Pearl stepped in front of the ShopNBC cameras,
first at midnight, then again at 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. She returned to the
networks’ Minnesota studios the following month and has reappeared every
month or so, as recently as last weekend. The exposure has had direct
and indirect benefits. Ms. Pearl estimates home shopping sales will
reach seven figures this year – and represent about a third of her total
revenue. And rather than losing any luster because of this added sales
venue, she feels her brand is sparkling even more. “Traffic both in the
store and on our Web site spikes every time I’m on air – about 30
percent,” she said.

THE CHALLENGE With sales growth slower than desired, Eve Pearl, the founder, is considering pitching her high-end cosmetic products – priced well above department store levels – to a broad audience by appearing on ShopNBC, a 24-hour TV shopping channel in the mode of QVC.
THE BACKGROUND While working on “The View,” Ms. Pearl started selling her brush-on products from her New York apartment. By 2008, she had become Ms. Vieira’s personal makeup specialist. She followed the broadcaster backstage on the sets of “Today” and “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” appeared on “Today” herself, and basked in the glow of a ribbon-cutting. She was flanked by morning show stars – Ms. Vieira, Ann Curry, Hoda Kotb and Natalie Morales – at the grand opening of her stylish 700-square-foot Upper East Side boutique. To read more about this follow this link:
I often get asked about problem dark circles underneath the eyes and how to camouflage them best. I find that although drinking plenty of water and regularly using a good eye brightening cream, eye Slices etc can help, this issue can often be genetic so some of my Clients are looking for more of a quick fix, particularly my Bridal Clients who want to look their very best for their big day.
With dark undereye circles, the best concealers are the creamy light
formulations that don’t crease easily and dry out the area, sinking into
fine lines and making the problem worse. Also you need a colour
correcting concealer with a peachy/pinky tone to counteract the
bluish/purplish colour of the dark circles.

No amount of makeup can mask an ugly heart.”- Kevyn Aucion
The above statement will always ring true when dealing with our inner being vs. our outer appearance. There is no amount of makeup that will ever allow a person to “be more beautiful”. What makeup should do is help enhance what was naturally given to us. Better yet, makeup is now helping us enhance our skin’s beauty and overall health.
The best thing we can do is educate ourselves about beauty (inner and outer). By keeping ourselves educated we can follow new trends and new technology. Wait, technology, what does that have to do with cosmetics? If you think about it, when was the last time you changed out your cell phone because the technology is now outdated? This thought rings true in the cosmetics industry as well. Technology is moving at lightning speed, and we need to keep up with it.
As a makeup artist I study product lines, I’m always looking for the
next best thing- the next great artist tool. For years I’d been
affiliated with Prescriptives Cosmetics line. That line was amazing
because of their color match and product performance. It was a few
years back when that company went out of business, and I was left
foundationless. I ended up going on a frantic search for foundation
because I needed to keep my clients (and myself) looking good. (I am
one of those crazy makeup artists that will go to great lengths to keep
my clients satisfied, and I will only use the best product on them.)
That’s when I turned to the internet and began my search for High
Definition (HD) Cosmetics.

If Eve Pearl had one message to give to Blanche Macdonald’s Makeup Students, it was this:
“Don’t have fear! Fear is the biggest paralyzer. That’s what keeps people back more than anything. I’ve seen people with no fear and no talent succeed. Lookat me! My biggest asset is my ignorance, and not letting my lack of knowledge stop me from pursuing my goals and ideas.”
The five-time Emmy-winner shared her insider knowledge with Makeup Students at Blanche Macdonald’s Atelier Campus, delivering an amazing two-hour presentation where she demonstrated a few of her techniques and the positive attitude that’sput her behind and in front of the camera on hit shows including The View, Good Morning America, The Today Show, and Live with Regis and Kelly.
“Half of what we do is troubleshoot. The other half is staying out of trouble,”she half-joked. “I have bad eyesight and shaky hands. I’m not an artist, but I have good taste and good skills. Speed is important. Simplify your technique.I’m letting you borrow mine.”

"For the colours them self, I'm in love! I think, with most women, we gravitate to the Natural/Earth tone shades. These are beautiful, as you can see from the swatches. They are very smooth, creamy & Blend effortlessly. The colours last all day! Never be fooled with "A Natural Palette", you can easily create that natural look and pull together a gorgeous night time look. The Taupe shade is also perfect for filling in my eye brows! "I think to myself when I open up the concealer container, how good could this actually be, really? Oooooh, THAT good! Let’s start with the amazing texture, it’s oil free and feels so velvety and smooth. The blend-ability is so important and this may be one of the best I’ve ever used. You can put it on super sheer or build it to a full coverage without it looking like spackle on your face,..." -Diva Taunia

...Now onto the review! I'm going to review a product that I used on Gia today... Eve Pearl Dual Performance Lip Color- Ultimate Palette, $40 online. Oh yummy. Yummy, yummy, yummy! This has to be one of my most favorite little palettes ever.
YAY! It's so tiny... maybe about 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches, I'm guessing. It has 18 lip colors in it. 18!!! Do you know how much space that would take up in my kit if I had to bring full sized lipsticks? Crazy smart, Eve! The lip colors come in a great array of tints and tones and I really appreciate the feel and durability of most of them.

The shades in Eve Pearl's Ultimate Eyes palette combine matte (off-black, terracotta brown, pinkish cream) and bold shimmer (deep green, peach, bronze) textures, are smooth, soft, and easy to blend. The compact is slim and easy to tote around, making it a great travel item, especially since it gives enough options for a casual/vacation look, as well as the obligatory smoky eye.

-MUA extraordinaire, Shawna Downing

"This cream blush texture is so soft and super creamy. It truly feels like her foundation, but in blush colors. It’s so lightweight and I do not feel I have anything on my cheeks. It’s also not oily, and doesn’t feel greasy. It’s heavenly to blend, very effortless. It might sound like an exaggeration, but it really seems like if the flush of color is coming from within, exactly how I think blush should actually look like). The colors are beautiful, extra pigmented and vibrant. I like the variety of the colors, as they can be used by themselves or mixed and matched for to create new ones."

While I use other Eve Pearl products, what I also really want to write about is the quality customer service. Not only are my questions always answered, they are often, surprisingly, answered by Eve herself! Imagine that! And, she is always, always generous and thoughtful in her responses. Additionally, last year I had an issue with the fan brush breaking. It was replaced, but that one broke, too. Rather than bother, I just let it go. Not a big deal. Recently, when I asked Eve (in one of a couple e mails back and forth about products I was about to buy )if the fan brush had improved, and my experience of it, she immediately told me it would be replaced. And, it was. This is truly exceptional customer service. I get that Eve really does care. As a result, she has my business for life.
P.S. She suggested I try the Priming Moisturizer with Astaxanthin, that I would love it. So, I bought it and she's right: it's great. I rarely wear foundation, but my concealer looks even better now! Thank you Eve!

A nose job, or rhinoplasty, is common among both women and men, and spans all ethnicities. Many people think that there is no risk involved. But think again. Chances are, you will experience one or more of the risks of surgery.
So why take any chances at all when you can accomplish the same goals with makeup? Using makeup, you can attain your idealized nose, steer clear of both the challenges and costs of surgery, and avoid the possible disappointment or regret of a permanent change.
The best thing with applying makeup to reshape our features...if you don’t like the results, just wash your face.
